Fostering Marine Life: Coral Planting Webinar to Preserve Coral Reefs
The webinar is an annual activity under the Education and Training (DIKLAT) Division, designed as an online platform connecting Junior Members (AM) and Regular Members to share knowledge and experiences. This event introduces the concept of Coral Planting, emphasizing the sustainability of coral reefs. The theme addresses pressing issues affecting coral reefs in Indonesia, presented by experts from among the Regular Members. The webinar provides participants with the flexibility to join from any location, facilitating in-depth discussions and real-time exchange of ideas. Supported by technology, this event becomes an effective medium for learning and sharing information across fields such as technology, education, and career development.
On Thursday, September 5, 2024, the webinar was successfully held online with over 30 Junior Members (AM) and Regular Members of BASIC Udayana in attendance. The event aimed to introduce coral reef conservation techniques and raise awareness about the importance of preserving marine ecosystems. Expert speakers provided insights into the current state of coral reefs in Indonesia and the challenges in their restoration. They also detailed coral transplantation methods, from selecting appropriate coral fragments and preparing suitable substrates to planting corals underwater. Additionally, participants gained knowledge about monitoring and caring for newly transplanted corals to ensure their growth and contribution to coral reef restoration efforts.
The event was initiated by a moderator, followed by an opening speech from the Chairperson of BASIC Udayana. Afterward, the moderator introduced the guest speaker and shared their curriculum vitae. The speaker delivered a one-hour presentation on coral transplantation techniques and the role of coral reef conservation in marine ecosystems. The webinar concluded with a discussion and Q&A session.
