Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Udayana University Welcomes IRD and BRIN Delegates to Explore Research Collaboration
Jimbaran, Bali – The Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries (FKP) at Udayana University welcomed a delegation from the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD) on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
The visit aimed to explore potential research collaborations and partnerships in the fields of Marine Ecology and Fisheries Science.
The delegation was warmly received by the Vice Dean III, Prof. I Wayan Gede Astawa Karang, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., along with faculty members at the Buyan Room, Samudera Building, FKP Campus, Jimbaran.
In his remarks, Prof. Astawa Karang expressed his enthusiasm for the potential collaboration.
“We warmly welcome Dr. Manuela Capello and the IRD Delegation,” he stated, highlighting the faculty’s eagerness to engage in international research partnerships.
The IRD delegation was led by Dr. Manuela Capello from the MARBEC Research Unit, who is also serving as a Visiting Scientist at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
She was accompanied by Dimas Fergiawan, affiliated with IRD Indonesia. The visit was initiated following an official request from Dr. Capello to Prof. Astawa Karang to discuss opportunities for joint research projects between the institutions.
During the meeting, presentations were delivered to introduce the profile and research interests of each institution.
Udayana University’s presentation highlighted the university’s achievements and detailed specific research groups within the Faculty of Marine Science and Fisheries, including Marine Science and Technology, Coastal and Marine Pollution Modeling, and Marine Remote Sensing and GIS.
The faculty also showcased its network of international research collaborations with institutions such as CSIRO, Murdoch University, and the University of Leeds.
The discussions focused on aligning research interests between both parties to foster mutually beneficial collaboration in the future. This visit marks an important step toward strengthening international scientific cooperation and enhancing research and development in Indonesia’s marine and fisheries sector.
