Initiation of Lake Toba Research Cooperation, Del Institute of Technology North Sumatra Visits FKP Unud


Institut Teknologi Del (abbreviated as IT Del) is a private university located in Sitoluama Village, Laguboti Sub-district, Toba Regency, North Sumatra, Indonesia, founded by Luhut Binsar Panjaitan. IT Del began conducting academic activities in 2001 and focuses on the field of technology science.

Thursday, 31 August 2023 IT Del visited the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries in order to initiate cooperation that can be collaborated together. Also present were Dr Johannes Harungguan Sianipar, ST, MT as Vice Rector 1, Public Relations Tommy Argo Simanjuntak, ST, M.ISD as WR 3, Dr Merry Meryam Martgrita, S.Si, M.Si as Dean of the Faculty of Biotechnology, and Deni P. Lumbantoruan, STM.Eng, Ph.D as lecturer of the Faculty of Informatics and Electrical Engineering in this cooperation discussion. The offer of cooperation was well received from the FKP Unud represented by I Wayan Gede Astawa Karang, S.Si, M.Si, Ph.D as WR 3 and Dewa Ayu Angga Pebriani, S.Pi, MP as Chairperson of the FKP Information and Cooperation Management Unit (UPIKS).

I Wayan Gede Astawa Karang started the meeting by introducing FKP through several Tri Dharma Perguruan Tunggi activities that have been carried out. IT Del through Deni P. Lumbantoruan conveyed his intentions and objectives to visit FKP. In his presentation, Deni said that the campus is close to Lake Toba but the scientific field on campus is focused on the field of technology. This makes IT Del hope that FKP is willing to collaborate in Tri Dharma activities, especially research that examines the condition of Lake Toba and its future management through the perspective of fisheries, marine collaborated with technology.

This was welcomed considering the condition of Lake Toba which resembles Lake Batur with the presence of Floating Net Cages in it allowing various joint researches related to the study of water carrying capacity, remote sensing, and AI-based data management, plus FKP will open a new study programme (Aquaculture) which focuses on managing AI-based aquaculture activities and zero waste. Further discussion will be outlined in the cooperation agreement between FKP and IT Del. At the end of the session, FKP gave a plaque to IT Del and vice versa IT Del gave a plaque as a memento to FKP Unud.
