Optimising Narrow Land, Faculty of Agriculture Socialises Hydroponics and Aquaponics in Musi Village, Buleleng

The need for food in the form of vegetables and fruits is increasing as the population grows.
Not to mention the problem of minimal land availability, especially in urban areas.

The Faculty of Marine and Fisheries of Udayana University (FKP Unud) in collaboration with KKN PPM XVIII students conducted a socialisation on the use of hydroponics and aquaponics as one of the solutions to overcome food security on a small scale.

The socialisation was also intended as a concrete manifestation of Udayana University in implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education in the form of community service.

The event was attended by the Secretary of Musi Village, Ketut Suadnyana, Musi Village community groups who mostly work as fishermen and farmers as well as lecturers at the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries (FKP) Unud.

The speakers of this activity were Kadek Suparta from CV 9 Dewata Hidroponics and Dr Pande Gde Sasmita Julyantoro who are academics and researchers of FKP Unud.

Dewa Ayu Angga Pebriani, M.P as the chief executive of the activity and Field Supervisor (DPL) of KKN PPM Musi Village said that urban farming with the concept of hydroponics and aquaponics is one of the solutions in overcoming small-scale food security problems in the community.

"Covid-19 last year has had an impact on the entire community, including the food aspect. Agriculture and cultivation in urban areas that are relatively small in land area is also another problem. Therefore, the application of aquaponics and hydroponics is one of the efforts to minimise this impact because it is very easy and effective and efficient, especially in space utilisation," he concluded.

The presentation and discussion went very interactively delivered by the two speakers, the participants also looked very enthusiastic, through questions thrown during the discussion.

The expected outcome of this activity is that the community has other alternatives in fulfilling their food needs, especially since the application of aquaponics and hydroponics is very easy to do and has yields that are not inferior to conventional methods and the nutritional content is healthier because it is organic.
