Concerned with the Preservation of Coastal Ecosystems, HIMASILA Holds a 2024 Study Club on Mangroves and Coral Reefs
The 2024 Mangrove and Coral Reef Study Club (SCMTK), themed “Lead the Way for a Better Coastal Environment,” is one of the work programs of the Marine Science Student Association (HIMASILA) from the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Udayana University. This program, conducted over two days, saw participation from 81 students from the 2023 and 2024 Marine Science cohorts.
The activities were held over two days, with mangrove planting on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at Kampoeng Kepiting, Tuban, Bali, and coral reef transplantation on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Pandawa Beach, Kutuh, Bali. In his opening remarks, HIMASILA’s Vice Chair, Achmad Ramadhan, expressed that through the 2024 Mangrove and Coral Reef Study Club, Marine Science students would gain hands-on experience with mangrove planting and coral transplantation, furthering their understanding of the importance of marine ecosystem sustainability. "Through SCMTK, we have the opportunity to contribute directly to coastal ecosystem preservation by participating in mangrove planting and coral reef transplantation," he added.
Moving forward, the HIMASILA FKP UNUD Mangrove and Coral Reef Study Club is expected to become a platform that shapes students with a maritime perspective, increasing participants' knowledge and awareness of the importance of mangrove and coral reef ecosystems for the coastal and marine environment.
