ICMFS 2025 Officially Opens, Bringing Together Leading International Marine Science Experts
Denpasar, 24 November 2025 — The Faculty of Marine and Fisheries (FKP) at Udayana University officially opened The 1st International Conference on Marine and Fisheries Science (ICMFS) under the theme “Blue Synergy: Sustainable Development and Improving Community Welfare for the Marine and Fisheries Sector.” The event took place on the 4th floor of the Samudera Building, FMSF Udayana, and was attended by academics, researchers, stakeholders, and practitioners from various countries.
The conference began at 08:30 WITA with an opening dance performance, the Indonesian national anthem, and an invocation. The Rector of Udayana University, represented by I Gede Hendrawan, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D. (Secretary of LPPM), delivered the opening remarks emphasizing the importance of international scientific collaboration to support sustainable development in the marine and fisheries sector.
In the first keynote session, three world-renowned experts presented cutting-edge insights in marine and ocean science:

Prof. Josaphat Tetuko Sri Sumantyo (Chiba University) Presented advancements in remote sensing technology and its applications for coastal monitoring.

Dr. Nani Hendiarti (Association of Indonesian Oceanologists / Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs) Spoke on national policy frameworks supporting food security and ocean governance.

Prof. Sai-Kit Yeung (Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) Highlighted digital innovation, AI-powered ocean observation, and technological transformation in marine science.
Each presentation was followed by a dynamic and engaging discussion session.

The first day concluded at 16:00 WITA with the announcement of the agenda for Day Two. All sessions ran smoothly and generated strong enthusiasm among participants.
