Prof. David Bybee Visits FKP Udayana to Discuss the Reproduction and Life History of the Fan Worm Sabellastarte spectabilis

Jimbaran, July 31, 2025 — The Faculty of Marine and Fisheries (FKP) at Udayana University held an international guest lecture featuring Prof. David Bybee from Brigham Young University–Hawaii, USA. The lecture, conducted in the FKP Meeting Room, carried the theme “Reproduction and Life History of the Fan Worm Sabellastarte spectabilis” and was attended by lecturers, students, and researchers with a strong interest in marine biology.

In his presentation, Prof. Bybee comprehensively discussed the reproductive aspects and life history strategies of Sabellastarte spectabilis, a species of fan worm commonly found in tropical waters. He highlighted how the species' morphology, reproductive behavior, and ecological adaptations play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of coral reef ecosystems.

“Understanding the life cycle of organisms such as Sabellastarte spectabilis is essential to support sustainable marine conservation and ecosystem management efforts,” said Prof. Bybee during the discussion session.

This event also served as a platform for academic exchange between Udayana University and international institutions, strengthening global academic networks focused on marine and fisheries science.

The lecture concluded with an interactive Q&A session and a token of appreciation presented to Prof. Bybee in recognition of his valuable contribution to science and knowledge sharing.
