PSDKP Mengajar Commemorates IUU Fishing Eradication Day at Udayana University
Bali, June 4, 2025 – Pangkalan PSDKP Benoa held the PSDKP Mengajar event as part of the commemoration of Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing Eradication Day 2025. The event took place on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 08:30 WITA until completion at the Batur Auditorium, Udayana University, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries.
The event, attended by students and academic staff from Udayana University, featured two main speakers from Pangkalan PSDKP Benoa:

During the event, the speakers presented a range of topics focusing on the importance of marine monitoring and efforts to combat IUU fishing, a major challenge in the marine and fisheries sector. The topics presented included:

Marine Surveillance: Strategic Steps for a Sustainable Future The speakers emphasized the importance of marine surveillance as a strategic measure to ensure the sustainability of marine ecosystems and prevent illegal activities in Indonesia’s waters.

Implementation of the Fishing Vessel Monitoring System (VMS)
This session provided participants with an understanding of the fishing vessel monitoring system, which is used to track vessel activities at sea, and how this technology helps prevent and eradicate illegal fishing practices.
Additionally, the speakers discussed the causes and impacts of illegal fishing, as well as the efforts needed to campaign for the importance of protecting the marine ecosystem for a sustainable future.
The speakers also elaborated on the information technology used by the Directorate General of PSDKP, specifically the use of the Vessel Monitoring System (VMS), which monitors the movement of fishing vessels and helps prevent illegal activities that can harm marine resources.
This event aimed to deepen students' understanding of the importance of preserving the oceans and playing an active role in the fight against illegal fishing, as well as introducing cutting-edge technologies used to monitor and manage fisheries activities in Indonesia.
It is hoped that the event will enable participants to spread awareness about the importance of marine surveillance and contribute to the broader efforts to protect Indonesia’s marine environment.
