Udayana University Establishes Collaboration with Shanghai Ocean University
Udayana University has established a partnership with Shanghai Ocean University, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) held at the Language Room, Rectorate Building, Jimbaran Campus, on Friday (March 21, 2025). The signing ceremony was attended by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information representing the Rector of Udayana University, along with the Dean and representatives from the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries. Meanwhile, representatives from Shanghai Ocean University included the Chairwoman of the College of Fisheries and Life Science, an Associate Professor, and the Secretary of the Centre for Ecological Aquaculture.
Shanghai Ocean University is a multidisciplinary higher education institution with a focus on applied research in aquaculture and fisheries. It is listed under China’s national 'Double First-Class' initiative and is committed to sustainable development, the utilization of aquatic bio-resources, and environmental ecological protection.
In his remarks, Vice Rector Prof. I Putu Gede Adiatmika briefly introduced Udayana University, which consists of 13 faculties, including the Faculty of Marine and Fisheries. He also mentioned that Udayana University already has partnerships with several universities in China and is home to a Tourism Confucius Institute under the Faculty of Tourism. Today marks the beginning of a new collaboration with another Chinese higher education institution, Shanghai Ocean University. This partnership was initiated by a faculty member who previously visited Shanghai Ocean University and proposed to follow up with formal cooperation between the two institutions. The Vice Rector expressed hope that this collaboration could be implemented through various activities such as student exchanges, joint research, staff exchanges, and other initiatives, especially considering that both universities share similar academic fields in marine and fisheries sciences.
Meanwhile, the Chairwoman of the College of Fisheries and Life Science, Ms. Xiaobo Gao, also presented an overview of Shanghai Ocean University and the College of Fisheries and Life Science, which was established in 1921 and is recognized as the origin of higher education in aquaculture in China. The college’s vision and mission focus on the sustainable development and utilization of aquatic bio-resources. By leveraging expertise in aquaculture and hydrobiology, the college conducts applied research and provides advanced technological services. It aims to nurture top innovative talents with a global vision and to become a world-class institution. She expressed her hope that the collaboration would bring mutual benefits to both institutions.
